ABOUT THE FURNITURE
All designs are original interpretations of geometric volumes. Designs are first sketched on a napkin, then each piece is mocked up in cardboard to a full-scale version of the conceptual idea. At this time changes are made to angles and function. When the mock-up is to my satisfaction, the piece is prepared for prototype construction in expanded steel. When the prototype is complete and meets all of the design requirements it is then drawn in CAD.
The fabrication process requires all parts to be precisely cut and married to solid round rod along the perimeter. Several hundred welds later, the pieces are joined to begin the formation of a 3-dimensional object.
The several hundred welds incurred at the semi-final stage of assembly allow the volume to become rigid and representative of the original sketch.
The final stages of construction include: smoothing all joints, bead blasting, and a burnishing or powder coated finish.
Pieces intended for indoor use are made from mild steel, while pieces intended for outdoor use are fabricated from stainless steel. All pieces regardless of substrate can be enjoyed for many years with proper care.
