ABOUT DAMIAN VELASQUEZ

Damian Velasquez is a self taught designer/craftsman residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For over twenty years he has used his skills of design, metal fabrication, woodworking, and finishing to create a unique collection of furniture that is sold around the country through craft shows and retail locations.

His latest line of expanded metal furniture was created in early 2009 after an inspirational encounter with a chair (designed by Shiro Kuramata) could not be contained. The challenge of learning to work with a material intended for bland industrial applications was intriguing. Damian soon mastered the ability to make an ordinary material come alive in a world well beyond its pedigree.

When Damian is not consumed at the studio, he is either fixing something around the house or tending to his chickens. He also can be found riding motorcycles with his son or cooking and gardening with his girl, Julianna.

When in Albuquerque pick up the phone and make time to see the studio. There is always cool furniture to see in addition to his collection of mid-century metal objects.
